Eating Snakes Could be Better for the Environment
Researchers say python farming could provide more food for those lacking meat, especially in areas where it is already acceptable to eat reptiles.
Researchers are turning to snakes to potentially address food insecurity issues. A study published in Scientific Reports says the meat from pythons could help solve global food insecurity. Researchers say python farming could provide more food for those lacking meat, especially in areas where it is already acceptable to eat reptiles. The results show two types of pythons studied, can grow rapidly and maintain body conditions while fasting, which gives farmers more flexibility on feeding the animals. The study says the pythons were humanely killed and produced one gram of meat for every four-point-one grams of food eaten.
