David DePape Takes The Stand In His Federal Trial
David DePape has pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official with intent to retaliate against the official for performance of their duties.
The alleged attacker of Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, took the stand in his federal trial.
David DePape described his plan to ‘take down’ a series high-profile figures that have been demonized in right-wing media.
The attack happened in October of last year. DePape said he went to the Pelosi home to talk to Nancy about Russian involvement in the 2016 election, and he planned to disguise himself and upload his interrogation of her online. When Nancy wasn’t home he encountered her husband, Paul, who he allegedly hit several times with a hammer.
The defense claims the attack was part of a plan to end corruption in the U.S.. DePape has pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official with intent to retaliate against the official for performance of their duties. His attorneys argue that he was not seeking to go after Nancy because of her official duties as a member of Congress, so the charges do not fit.
