If you are carving a pumpkin for Halloween and you want make it easy and look great…here are our Thursday Tips!
First up, if you’re planning to skip the stencils and free-hand it, use a dry erase marker if you need a little help sketching an intricate part of your carving. That way, if your knife goes a little rogue, you can erase your lines easily.
Lengthen pumpkin life with a little Vaseline. Rub petroleum jelly onto the carved areas. This will protect the surface and seal in moisture, preventing the pumpkin from getting dry and shriveled. Then, hopefully it will look good until the holiday!
Create a fall-scented jack-o’-lantern by sprinkling some cinnamon. Lightly dust the top of the cut pumpkin lid, then blot the excess cinnamon off with a paper towel. Then, light a candle and replace the lid. After a couple of minutes, it will smell like pumpkin spice.
Finally, don’t toss your cut out pieces, get creative and use all of the pumpkin parts in your design. Try integrating them into your jack-o’-lantern design. Small pieces work great as ears, tongues, noses, and limbs. You can attach the extra parts to the pumpkin using toothpicks.
