Gov. McMaster Signs Law Guaranteeing Paid Parental Leave for Teachers

Lawmakers hope the new legislation will boost the state's efforts to recruit and retain teachers.

Governor Henry McMaster has now signed a law that guarantee’s paid parental leave for public school teachers in South Carolina. With his signature, the state became the first in the south-east to guarantee public school employees statewide, including teachers, to receive paid leave for up to six weeks when they welcome a new child. Lawmakers hope the new legislation will boost the state’s efforts to recruit and retain teachers at a time of a growing educator shortage. The bill will become effective starting on June 26th.
