CDC Confirms First Known Death Due to Monkeypox in the U.S.

A Los Angeles county resident has been confirmed to be the first known death due to monkeypox in the U.S. The Department of Public Health and the CDC confirmed that the person suffered a severely weakened immune system and was hospitalized. Due to the person’s immune system condition the virus could not be controlled once it entered the body. Dr. William Schaffner, a professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt university medical center, stated the disease likely spread to several organ systems resulting in their malfunction. The identity of the deceased will not be released to protect confidentiality and privacy.
