CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky Signs Order Recommending Covid-19 Vaccines for Children Under 5
On Saturday, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signed off on Covid-19 vaccines for children under 5. That comes after vaccine advisers with the CDC voted unanimously in support of recommending the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines to children as young as six months old. Walensky signed off on the administration of two doses of Moderna’s vaccine in children ages 6 months to 5 years and three doses of Pfizer’s vaccine in children ages 6 months to four years. Vaccinations could begin immediately but may not begin until tomorrow in some places that are waiting on supplies. In a statement, President Biden said “today is a monumental step forward in our nation’s fight against the virus, with virtually every American now eligible for the protections that Covid-19 vaccines provide, for parents all over the country, this is a day of relief and celebration.”
