President Biden Declares Major Disaster in New Mexico
A major disaster has been declared in New Mexico as the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire continues to grow. On Wednesday President Biden declared it a ‘major disaster’ which makes federal money available for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help residents and business owners recover. Since the beginning of the year, over 300,000 acres have burned in New Mexico which is more than the previous two years combined. The Hermits Peak, Calf Canyon fire accounts for more than 165,000 acres itself.
