The official declaration comes from Secretary of State Antony Blinken, President Biden and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman.
The United States government is now formally accusing Russian forces of committing war crimes in Ukraine. The official declaration that Moscow’s troops have violated the laws of conflict come from Secretary of State Antony Blinken, President Biden and Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who agree that in their personal opinion, war crimes have taken place. Whether there will be any accountability for those accused of carrying out the alleged crimes, and whether Russian President Vladimir Putin himself will bear any responsibility is unknown. Beth Van Schaack, the U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice says it’s essential that evidence is collected and preserved for future accountability.
