Former Myrtle Beach Police Detective Pleads Guilty To Lesser Charge

During the confrontation, 46-year-old Michael DeBiase drew and pointed his department-issued handgun at the patrolman.

The former Myrtle Beach police detective accused of drawing his weapon over a minor issue has pleaded.

In late May, 46-year-old Michael DeBiase was at the Myrtle Beach Police Department on North Oak Street. He reportedly confronted a patrolman about him warming up fish in the microwave, which “caused an odor in the office.”

During the confrontation, DeBiase drew and pointed his department-issued handgun at the patrolman. Initially, he was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person after a SLED investigation. He has now pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered to pay a $350 fine. The lesser charge allows him to avoid jail time.
