ICE Instructed To Stop Making Traffic Stops After Shootings

ICE agents will cease making traffic stops, which have played a key role in the agency's operations until now.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are being instructed to end “most” vehicle stops nationwide in a major policy shift, effective immediately.

ICE agents will cease making traffic stops, which have played a key role in the agency’s operations until now. ICE will continue vehicle stops but only for those considered to be the most distinct targets. Those include targets with serious or violent criminal histories.

The action comes after two people were recently killed in ICE officer-involved shootings in Maine and Texas. Both shootings have sparked protests and are separately being investigated by federal and local authorities.
