Horry County Council Adopts New Regulations For PEDs
There must be a headlamp on the front and a red reflector on the back. They must also be operated on the correct side of the road or street.
The Horry County Council has adopted a new ordinance regulating certain personal electronic devices.
The new regulations on personal electronic devices are being enforced due to safety concerns and the increase of PEDs, which is an electric-powered seated wheeled device.
PEDs are now allowed on roads but only if the speed limit is under 20 mph and crosswalks/intersections when crossing roads.
They can only be operated with the intended number of riders. You must indicate turns and stops and yield to pedestrians. You are not allowed to use devices like cell phones while operating.
There must be a headlamp on the front and a red reflector on the back. They must also be operated on the correct side of the road or street.
Lastly, no reckless driving while on the roadway, bicycle lane, or multi-use lane. The ordinance does not include mobility devices, or anything similar, e-bikes, or electric standing scooters.
