Mexico To Host Iran’s World Cup Team

FIFA officials approached Mexico about hosting the team after the U.S. declined to allow the team to stay in the country.

Mexico is set to host Iran’s FIFA World Cup team amid tensions between Iran and the U.S..

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said they have no reason to deny the possibility of them staying in her country and her government has agreed to allow it.

Mexico will co-host the World Cup jointly with the U.S. and Canada. FIFA officials approached Mexico about hosting the team after the U.S. declined to allow the team to stay in the country.

President Trump has stated that he cannot ensure the security of the Iranian national team but he did say it is safe for the team to play in the U.S..

The team was initially scheduled to train in Tucson, Arizona, and the changes come due to uncertainty connected to the current ongoing conflict, along with visa issues.
