Person Fatally Struck By Jet On Denver International Airport Runway

A person breached through airport security before scaling a perimeter fence and dashing out onto the runway.

One person was fatally struck on a runway at the Denver International Airport late Friday night.

Shortly after 11pm, a person breached through airport security before scaling a perimeter fence and dashing out onto the runway.

Frontier Flight 4345 struck the pedestrian during take-off. The pilot stopped take-off procedures immediately. There was a brief engine fire that was extinguished by the Denver Fire Department.

There were 231 people aboard the plane, which was evacuated. 12 people were hurt, with five taken to a hospital. Runway 17L was closed and an investigation remains underway.

“As far as security protocols, our security teams and Denver police regularly patrol the perimeter of the airport. The person scaled the barbed-wire fence and was hit within two minutes,” a Denver Airport spokesperson said.
