Senate Republicans Approve Budget Blueprint For ICE And CBP
Democrats say they won’t support enforcement funding without major changes to ICE tactics
Senate Republicans approved a budget blueprint Thursday aimed at funding ICE and Border Patrol.
The measure passed 50-48, with all Democrats opposed and two Republicans voting against. This marks a first major step toward unlocking the budget reconciliation process.
Next, the House must pass the same measure. Republicans then plan to use budget reconciliation to move an ICE and Customs and Border Patrol funding package without Democratic votes.
Democrats say they won’t support enforcement funding without major changes to ICE tactics and House Republicans previously rejected a bipartisan DHS funding deal that didn’t include immigration enforcement money.
