Tributes are pouring in for actor and comedian Paul Reubens, whose character “Pee-wee Herman” entertained audiences on film and TV for years. According to his publicist, Reubens died Sunday at age 70, after a six-year struggle with cancer. In a statement released at the time of his death and shared on his social media, Reubens wrote “Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years.” The live “Pee-wee Herman Show” debuted on stage in 1981 and HBO aired it as a special. The character, known for his gray suit, red bow tie, and catch phrases made it to the big-screen in 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure directed by Tim Burton.
