The next time you’re grilling and you don’t have a meat thermometer handy, don’t worry, there’s a handy finger test method and all you need are your hands!  Here’s how it works. you want to press on the meat and then compare it to the palm of your hand. Take the index finger of your other hand and push on the fleshy area between the thumb and the base of the palm. Make sure your hand is relaxed.  This is what raw meat feels like.   Gently press the tip of your pinky and your thumb together. Again feel the fleshy area below the thumb, it should feel quite firm which is what well done meat feels like.   It goes down from there.  Ring finger and thumb together is the feel of medium well.   Middle finger and thumb is medium, pointer and thumb is medium rare.
