SCDNR Says Alligator Sightings Could Increase During Mating Season
If you spot one, the department warns to keep your distance.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is reminding locals and tourists to be aware of alligators in the area.
Mating season for the animals is just around the corner, which may lead to more frequent sightings. SCDNR Alligator Project Manager Morgan Hart says just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there. She added that alligators are common in any freshwater below the fall line, which runs parallel to the coast and is where rivers are no longer navigable from the lowcountry. If you spot one, the department warns to keep your distance and allow them to enjoy the sunshine.
