We all know that too much sugar is not good for us and to try and be better, some of us may be using artificial sweetners in our coffee thinking we’re doing better for ourselves. But, that may not be the case. A report out this year shows that both sugar and the articial sweetners have a negative impact on memory and learning. The substitutes we often load our coffees with and drink in our diet sodas…were linked to causing chronically high insulin, which increases our risks for alzheimer’s, heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems. Aspartame, saccharine or sucralose also linked to making things like anxiety, depression, irritability and sleep troubles worse. The good news is Stevia, which is a natural sugar substitute, showed no significiant effects on the brain in the studies. So, when looking for a sweetener…Stevia which is extracted from the leaf of an herb…appears to be a better choice.
