The Mental Benefits of Viewing an Aquarium

Walking through an aquarium has been shown to lower blood pressure and reduce emotional stress.

The weekend is finally here.  If you want to really make the most of yours, there’s something fun you can do that will give you the weekend glow and boost your mental health.  Visit your local aquarium.  A recent study shows a visit can lower your blood pressure and emotional agitation just by walking through an aquarium.  The gurgling sound of the bubbles add to the therapeutic effect of looking at the relaxing colors of both the fish and background inside the tank.   Another study out of Berkeley showed that looking at pictures or videos of nature also curbs the production of the stress hormone cortisol.

If you’re looking for a fun activity for the weekend, head over to Ripley’s Aquarium at 1110 Celebrity Circle in Myrtle Beach.  Stay up to date and follow Ripley’s Aquarium on Facebook.  And don’t forget you can always check out the live Penguin Cam, click here to view now!
