Covid-19 Death Toll Three Times Higher Than Recorded

According to data from the World Health Organization, the Covid-19 death toll is almost 3 times originally reported. The data shows that about 14.9 million people around the world died as a direct or indirect result of Covid-19 in the period between January 1st, 2020 and December 31st, 2021. There were only 5.4 million deaths reported to the WHO during that time frame which has resulted in an excess mortality estimate of nearly 9.5 million deaths that were reported. Also according to the WHO’s report, the excess deaths were 13.3 to 16.6 million over the 24-month period. The Technical Officer with the WHO’s Department of Data and Analytics, William Msemburi, said about 57% of the excess deaths were in men and 82% were in people above age of 60.
