More Trapped Ukrainians Attemping to Evacuate Mariupol Steel Plant

Fighters inside the plant are reportedly sharing water and food with civilians but say time and supplies are running out.

Tensions remain heightened at the besieged Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, Ukraine. A commander among the Ukrainian soldiers has reported that the complex is under “constant fire” as hundreds of civilians continue their attempts to evacuate. Fighters inside the plant are reportedly sharing water and food with civilians but say time and supplies are running out. Russia says its forces have now reached the outskirts of the plant and are carrying out a “step by step clearing mission.” On Sunday, about 100 civilians were evacuated from the plant and another 100 are thought to remain, including 20 children. Today, President Biden is traveling to Alabama to visit a facility that manufactures javelin missiles being sent to Ukrainian forces. He will tour and deliver remarks from the Lockheed Martin Manufacturing Facility in Troy.
