Director Fired Ahead of 2020 Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony, Jill Biden Attending Event
The opening ceremony for the 2020 Summer Olympics will be held tomorrow. Organizers announced this morning that the director of the opening ceremonies Kentaro Kobayashi was dismissed following past comments that he made about the Holocaust. Kobayashi said “I understand that my foolish choice of words at the time was a mistake, and I regret it.” Earlier this week, the composer for both the opening and closing ceremonies Keygo Oyamada announced his intentions to step down after old interviews of bullying behavior resurfaced.
First Lady Jill Biden will be attending the opening ceremonies in Tokyo. The trip marks her first solo appearance abroad as First Lady of the United States. She will not only attend the games but also take part in at least two diplomatic events overseas which includes dinner at the Akasaka Palace with prime minister Suga and his wife and a bilateral event with is also being held at the palace. On Saturday she will dedicate a room in the Chief of Mission Residence to Irene Hirano Inouye and Daniel Inouye the late Senator and medal of honor recipient from Hawaii.
