FBI Director’s Testimony Sheds Little Light on Capitol Riot
FBI Director Chris Wray gave his testimony yesterday before a Senate committee hearing investigating the deadly Capitol riot. However, his time on the stand did not yield any new major revelations. One of the biggest questions Senators had was why the FBI didn’t do more to warn security officials. The FBI is said to have released a field report a day before the riot which was not taken seriously and Wray said he had “no good answer” for that. He added they made the post easily accessible in multiple areas online but could not explain why it was barely acknowledged, let alone read. Another major inquiry Senators had was how the FBI could have underestimated the attack which was so blatantly discussed online. Wray simply replied “we need to get better at collecting [information], obviously.” He further managed to skirt around certain questions and tried to defend his administration. He promised they were putting more resources towards investigating domestic terrorism and were working hard to hold those accountable who participated in the January 6th insurrection. The DC National Guard Commander is now testifying before the same Senate committee today.
