Ex-Officer Charged in Relation to Breonna Taylor’s Death Faces New Lawsuit
The officer who was charged in relation to the death of Breonna Taylor now faces another lawsuit. Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Brett Hankison was fired after his involvement in the botched no-knock raid that led to the death of 26-year-old Taylor in March. After a grand jury deliberation, he was also charged with three counts of wanton endangerment for putting the lives of neighbors, including a child and pregnant woman, at unnecessary risk. Hankison is now also being accused of sexual assault and battery in a new lawsuit filed yesterday. The plaintiff describes Hankison as a “sexual predator” who “used his police uniform and secondary night club employment as mechanisms to prey on innocent, young women.” While the lawsuit describes one incident from 2018, claims were also made by nine other women. The suit further names five other members of the LMPD who allegedly knew of this misconduct but never reported or investigated it. The plaintiff is demanding compensatory and punitive damages, as well as costs incurred for attorney fees.
