Airlines Prepare for Possibility of Domestic Travel Shutdown

Airlines are preparing for the real possibility of a domestic travel ban due to the spread of COVID-19. Despite a statement President Trump gave reassuring this will not happen and his obvious hope to get movement and social distancing restrictions lifted by Easter, major airline officials have said they just don’t know what will happen. The situation remains “fluid” and they therefore must prepare for anything, this includes remaining open to the idea of a domestic travel shutdown. Despite multiple attempts to attract more business, airlines are continuing to see a severe drop in passengers. As a result, it’s likely these major airlines will be forced to participate in a voluntary partial shutdown of their own. The TSA reported they “screened about two million less passengers compared to the same weekday last year.”
