North Myrtle Beach Named Safest City in South Carolina

And in some lighter news, North Myrtle Beach has been named the safest city in South Carolina according to a new study. The survey from backgroundchecks.org collected statistics on violent and property crime from the FBI in 2018. They found while property crime is high, the violent crime rate in North Myrtle Beach was significantly lower than the state average. This information seemed to be unsurprising to residents and even the city’s police chief who said “We’re a very proactive police force and we’re very active on patrol.” However, population flux could impact these results. It’s estimated about 16,000 people live in North Myrtle Beach permanently with about 100,000 people visiting for the peak season and could attribute to skewed crime statistics.
