Governor McMaster Announces 2020-2021 Budget Plan
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster announced his budget plan for 2020 and 2021. He wants to give back nearly $425 million from the state’s surplus through rebate checks and tax relief. Ultimately, legislators will have the final say, but the governor hopes his 5-month budget proposal concerning the state’s top priorities will satisfy both house and senate leaders. Just to name a few, McMaster plans to designate $250 million towards rebates based on income. $100 million for state prison improvements, $38 million for state law enforcement salaries and recruitment, $33 million in raises for state employees, and $71 million to pay for new math textbooks across the state.
