24 Arrests Made in Relation to Australian Fires
Australian law enforcement have arrested 24 people who they believe deliberately started some of the fires that are now devastating their country. Along with those 24 arrested for initially starting the fires, they have taken legal action against 183 other people for fire-related offenses. Forty of whom are juveniles. Offenses include failure to comply with the total fire ban, breach of the fire ban, discarding of lit cigarettes or matches on land, and fires started on land for other reasons including cooking and various recreational purposes. Australian law enforcement are taking these offenses very seriously. At least 24 people have died, including a firefighter, as a result. The number of animals assumed dead has risen from half a billion to well over a billion. Entire towns and cities have been evacuated and nearly 18 million acres of land destroyed .
