Ikea Settles Lawsuit for $46 Million Dollars
Ikea is set to pay a settlement sum of $46 million dollars after a toddler was killed by one of their dressers. Two-year-old Jozef Dudek was killed in 2017 when a 70 pound Ikea dresser tipped over and crushed him while he was napping. Lawyers believe Ikea was aware the dresser “lacked counter balancing weight…causing the dresser to be top…and front heavy” which rendered it unstable. This is believed to be the largest child wrongful death settlement in American history. Ikea only recalled this specific dresser after lawyers filed claims on behalf of two other families who also suffered similar fates. However, a total of eight kids are known to have been killed by falling Ikea furniture. The chain store recalled a total of 29 million chests and dressers in 2016.
