MWR co-owner Kauffman unlikely to sponsor Truex

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Michael Waltrip Racing co-owner Rob Kauffman says there’s a “low probability” he’ll fund sponsor-strapped driver Martin Truex Jr. in 2014. NAPA Auto Parts announced early this month it was ending its multimillion-dollar sponsorship of MWR at the end of the year in the wake of the Richmond cheating scandal. Kauffman has pumped in much-needed cash and brought stability and accountability to the organization since he formed a partnership with Waltrip. Kauffman is a founder of the Fortress Investment Group. He also founded RK Motors and has stepped in to fill occasional sponsorship gaps in the past. Kauffman was at Dover Sunday and a NASCAR track for the first time since the scandal hit. He returned from overseas to get MWR reorganized. He says Ty Norris is a “valuable member” of the organization but refused to comment on any future role for the suspended MWR crew chief.
