One of the most dangerous motorsport races in the world is taking off this weekend for the 100th time and two drivers from North Carolina are taking part.

This will be the 28th time the defending Open Class champion, Layne Schrantz, has raced Pikes Peak. However, his dad, Randy, raced the hill climb a record 40 times!

A driver from the Upstate is among 60 from around the world taking part in the Race to the Clouds at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Racer Derek Boyd, a resident of Mebane, North Carolina, will be competing in this year’s Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on June 27th. Boyd has competed in the Race to the Clouds since 2014 and finished second place in last year’s event.
A driver from Huntersville, North Carolina is among 60 from around the world who will take part in the Race To The Clouds on June 27th. Johan Schwartz says racing has always been in his blood, even as a child growing up in Denmark.
