Duke Energy Crew Serves BBQ in Florence Restaurant to Raise Money for Disabilities Foundation
It's an ongoing mission of employees to give of their time and talents to the communities they live and work.
We pause on each Wednesday to observe all the good around us from around the world to our backyards. We’ve partnered with the Maguire Law Firm to bring you Carolina Kindness.
We begin in Florence where we find Duke Energy crew members taking time out of their days to give back to the community. Yesterday they prepared BBQ plates to raise money for the Florence County Disabilities Foundation. This is something employees wanted to do as the foundation is a valued organization that meets important needs in Florence. In fact, It is not uncommon to see members of this utility company serving in this manner. It’s an ongoing mission of employees to give of their time and talents to the communities they live and work. Also, Roger’s BBQ also has a gracious stance of giving back. The restaurant frequently affords organizations to fund raise in their restaurant.
Some chefs in Robeson County are building and and making their community stronger. The Robeson Community College opened their doors to aspiring chefs of Red Springs High School to allow them shadow and get an up-close look at what it’s like in the field they are interested in. These students got an up-close look at all the machinery and kitchen tools available. They even got to help prepare entrees. It was a joint effort by many, from the college to the culinary students and instructors.
We head now to California where we heard of a student who was on the receiving end of a random act of kindness. Kayla Cooper is in nursing school, works two jobs and has been borrowing vehicles form family and friends to get there. She had been saving to purchase a car at a dealership. When the day came to make her purchase, she shopped at the local dealership, found a car but then didn’t have enough finance to make a purchase. Kayla left without a car. But as it happens, another customer who was shopping during that time had was witnessed Kayla’s disappointment. He asked the salesperson she was working with to call her back to the dealership because he was giving his trade-in to her. Kayla comes back, he signs over the title, and hands her the keys.
Help us spread kindness across the Carolinas. We would love to share your stories, big or small. Email your random act of kindness to carolinakindness@wfxb.com.
