International Travel Restrictions Will Go in Effect on Monday
The Biden administration’s new Covid-19 testing requirements for all travelers coming into the United States will begin on Monday. The new rules require each traveler flying into the US from another country to test negative one day before their departure. Previously travelers had to test up to three days before entering into the country. The new rule which the president announced yesterday along with a list of new steps to fight the virus this Winter, underscores the potential threat posed by the newly discovered Omicron variant which scientists are still working to determine how transmissible that variant is, how sick it makes people and how well the current vaccines work against it. Any foreigner who travels to the US must be fully vaccinated but there are currently no vaccination requirements for Americans traveling by airplane either globally or domestically. The White House said that requirement remains on the table as an option for the future.
