First Confirmed Case of Omicron Coronavirus Variant Found in California, Second in Minnesota

Breaking this morning, the second case of the Omicron Coronavirus variant in the United States has been identified in Minnesota, according to a statement from state health officials. The state’s public health laboratory found the variant in an a Minnesota resident with recent travel history to New York City. The adult male had been vaccinated. The United States’ first Omicron case was reported in California yesterday. That person had also been vaccinated. The World Health Organization deems the Omicron variant a concern and expects more cases. However, the Delta variant remains the dominant variant globally and in the United States.
