Biden Administration Plans to Purchase 10 Million Doses of Pfizer Covid-19 Antiviral Drug
The Biden administration is planning to purchase 10 million doses of Pfizer’s experimental antiviral Covid-19 pill and is currently working to finalize a contract. That announcement could come as soon as this week. The administration had previously planned to purchase about 5 million doses but after seeing data from Pfizer, the President asked to double the order. Earlier this month Pfizer announced results from a trial of it’s antiviral drug saying that an interim analysis showed an 89% reduction in hospitalizations or deaths among people who had been given the drug that’s administered in combination with Ritonavir and is meant to treat mild to moderate symptoms. Pfizer also announced yesterday that it would be seeking Emergency use Authorization from the FDA for the pill and signed an agreement to allow for broader global access to the drug.
