Biden Hosts Schumer, Manchin in Delaware to Discuss Spending Plan
Over the weekend, President Biden hosted moderate Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer at his home in Delaware. The move was used as a push to finalize an agreement on the economic and climate packages up for vote. The house is scheduled to vote for the bipartisan infrastructure package on Wednesday or Thursday. It’s unclear what the final price tag will be but according to a source, Manchin informed Democratic leaders he’s open to $1.75 trillion dollars.
The president is asking lawmakers to form an agreement before he departs for Europe this week and has shifted his angle at bringing the months long negotiations to an end in recent days. Biden, Schumer and Manchin had a ‘productive discussion’ about the president’s agenda and they ‘continued to make progress’ according to the White House. ‘Their staffs will work on follow-ups from the meeting and agreed to stay in close touch with each other and the other members who’ve worked on the negotiations.’
