FBI Confirms Brian Laundrie’s Remains Found At Nature Reserve in Florida

Yesterday the FBI announced that the remains found on Wednesday at a Florida Nature Reserve are those of Brian Laundrie. Dental records were used to confirm his identification. Two local detectives visited the Laundrie’s family home in North Port Florida shortly before the announcement was made. Family attorney Steven Bertolino said “we have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundrie’s privacy.” An attorney for the Petito family, Richard Stafford said they are not doing any interviews adding “Gabby’s family will make a statement at the appropriate time and when they are emotionally ready.”

Along with the remains, investigators also found clothing believed to be consistent with what Laundrie was wearing when he left home on September 13th. A backpack and notebook belonging to Laundrie was also found near the remains during the search. North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor said the notebook will have to be dried out and processed carefully since it was found wet. Officials hope the notebook will provide some insight on the case if they can read it. Taylor could not comment as to whether a weapon was found.
