HCFR Captain Wins Title At Firefighter Challenge World Championships

Captain David Howell and Mike Medeiros won the title at the Firefighter Challenge World Championships in Las Vegas.

The captain of Horry County Fire Rescue won a world championship title.

Captain David Howell won the title on Saturday at the Firefighter Challenge World Championships in Las Vegas. He and his partner, Mike Medeiros, won the Over 50 Tandem World Championship.

Howell first competed in the Firefighter Challenge League in 2022. He helped lead Team Horry to several S.C. State Championships and set several records.

After a decade long break from competition, Howell returned this year bringing home five medals including two gold, two silver, and one bronze at the Firefighter Challenge League Southeast Regional Championships. That qualified him for the World Championships where the duo won the title.
