Former Attorney Alex Murdaugh Taken into Custody in Florida

Former South Carolina Attorney Alex Murdaugh was arrested yesterday in Florida. His arrest was on suspicion of misappropriating settlement funds in connection to the death of his longtime housekeeper. Murdaugh is facing two felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses according to SLED and he is being held at the Orange County Correctional Facility in Florida and is expected to be extradited to Beaufort County today to appear in court on the charges. According to authorities, several investigations related to the Murdaugh family are currently underway including one into the deaths of his wife and son who were gunned down at the families home in June.

Last month Murdaugh survived being shot in the head and admitted it was a conspiracy with a former client to kill him as part of a fraud scheme so his son could collect an insurance pay-out. He was arrested on September 16th in connection with the allegations regarding the shooting and was charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and with filing a false police report. Murdaugh was released on a $20,000 bond in connection to those charges and had been at a rehab center in Florida for his opioid addiction.
