CDC Issues Urgent Recommendation for Pregnant Women
Yesterday, the CDC issued an urgent recommendation for pregnant women and those who’ve recently given birth. According to the CDC, pregnant women or women who are planning to become pregnant should be vaccinated against the Coronavirus. To date, only about 31% of pregnant women have been vaccinated. The agency said “as of September 27th more than 125,000 laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 cases have been reported in pregnant people, including more than 22,000 hospitalized cases and 161 deaths.”
The CDC also reported 22 pregnant women died in August, which was the worst month of the pandemic. The alert also said that data from the Covid-19 Associated Hospitalization Surveillance Network this year indicated that approximately 97% of pregnant people who were hospitalized either for illness or labor and delivery with confirmed Covid infections were unvaccinated. Covid-19 in pregnancy can cause preterm birth or babies that have to go immediately to the nicu after birth.
