One Dead Following Shooting At High School In Winston-Salem North Carolina

One student is dead following a shooting yesterday in Winston-Salem North Carolina. According to Winston-Salem Police Department Chief Catrina Thompson, officers with the department and Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Mount Tabor High School at 12:07 p.m. According to Thompson, ‘one student was located with a gunshot wound and transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.’ That student has been identified as William Miller Jr.

The suspect, who authorities think is a fellow student was taken into custody without incident and authorities offered no details about the suspect, a possible motive or what might have led up to the incident. According to the sheriff’s office, the school was placed on lockdown after the shooting and many high schools in the area were also on lockdown out of an ‘abundance of caution.’ Those were lifted later yesterday afternoon. The shooting was the second one to take place this week in North Carolina, the other was in Wilmington where one student was shot Monday at New Hanover High School.
