Senate Committees To Release Report On Insurrection Next Week

Two Senate committees are planning to release a 100 page report about what went wrong during the Capitol Riots. The Senate Rules and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committees are expected to release their findings on the security failures next week. The findings include a detailed look at how security failures, poor planning, slow response times from law enforcement and lackluster sharing of intelligence and communications all contributed to riots.

Recommendations in the report are likely to include the basis of a funding package in the Senate which will be aimed at beefing up Capitol security. The Senate investigation was conducted in a bipartisan manner by Democratic and Republican leaders but the release of the findings is expected to start a battle between the two parties about what should be done to look into the insurrection. The Senate investigation focused solely on security problems leading up to the breach and not the role former President Trump played.
