One Person Dead, Another Injured After A Shooting At A Fire Station In California

One person is dead and another injured after a shooting at a fire station in California yesterday. The shooting took place around 10:50 a.m. when authorities received reports about a shooting at fire station 81 Agua Dulce California which is about 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. According to Brandon Dean of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau, when first responders arrived they found a 44 year old man with gunshot wounds to his torso who was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was a firefighter specialist and engineer who had been with the department for over 20 years. A 54 year old LAFD Captain was also found with gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.

According to Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby, the suspected gunman wasn’t scheduled to work yesterday and the shooter and two victims all worked different shifts. Investigators received a name and vehicle description for the suspect based on witness testimony which led them to a home about 10 miles away from the station and when authorities arrived it was on fire. The off-duty employee, a firefighter specialist and engineer, was found dead in the burning home.  In the process of fighting that fire, deputies found the suspect in a pool with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Officials did not identify the victims or the suspect and are unsure of a motive at this time.
