Darlena Moore, a former foster kid, creates scholarships to help others in foster care afford college.
This is a Pay it Forward story in our viewing area. Darlena Moore grew up as a foster kid. She says foster kids often don’t get help for college and was thankful her foster parents helped her have that opportunity. Because of that, she wanted to help other foster kids be able to have the same opportunity. So she created a scholarship in her foster parents’ name. To fund it she started a granola business in her home kitchen called Mountain Girl granola. She has helped fund several scholarships. This year two students at Robeson Community College received each $1500 for their schooling. every story can be re-written. RCC students Amanda Meares and Riley Scott were the recipients of those scholarships, each
receiving a $1500 check.
