Biden Administration Working To Identify Vulnerable Migrant Families
The Biden Administration is reportedly working with non governmental organizations to identify vulnerable migrant families in Mexico and allow them entry into the United States. They have previously faced criticism for relying on Title 42 that was put in place by former President Trump in early 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. The policy allows officials to expel migrants encountered at the border. Some people argue that the policy puts migrants in harms way and leaves many including those seeking asylum in dangerous conditions.
In some cases families have even opted to separate from their children since unoccupied children are not subject to the policy. Yesterday, Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada told Homeland Security’s Alejandro Mayorkas that she remains “concerned about the continuation of Title 42”. Sources say the plan is kicking off on a pilot basis and that families will be put in immigration proceedings.
