The CDC Approved the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine for Ages 12 to 15
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control has approved the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine for ages 12 to 15. Yesterday members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted unanimously to recommend giving the shot to kids as young as 12. Director Rochelle Walensky said “The CDC now recommends that this vaccine be used among this population, and providers may begin vaccinating them right away.” On Monday, the FDA extended it’s emergency use authorization for the vaccine in adolescents between the ages of 12 to 15.
President Biden applauded the decision and said that 17 million more Americans will now be eligible for the vaccination saying “Now, I encourage each of them and their parents to get their vaccination shots right away.” Today, CVS pharmacies are expected to begin administering the vaccine to the age group but consent from a parent or guardian will be required and an adult must be present.
