Biden says the increase shows the U.S. will welcome and support refugees and added his goal for the 2022 fiscal year is to admit 125,000 refugees. According to the refugee processing center, 2,050 refugees were admitted into the U.S. this fiscal year as of March 31st. Based upon the numbers, the U.S. is unlikely to hit the new goal for this year. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandra Mayorkas said the President has been committed to the refugee program and to rebuilding it and regaining our status as a world leader in the refugee affairs since day one, and that has been unwavering. we’re very proud of the announcement today, and it reflects that enduring commitment.”
