President Biden and Vice President Harris Visit Georgia

President Biden and Vice President Harris are visiting Georgia today. They will meet with representatives of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. The visit comes in the wake of the spa shootings earlier this week in Atlanta that left 8 people dead and two injured. 6 of the 8 victims were Asian women.   21 year old Robert Long was arrested for the attack. Long claimed the shootings were not racially motivated but that he had a ‘sex addiction’ and he wanted to eliminate his temptation. Biden and Harris will also visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which is headquartered in Atlanta to receive updates on the fight on the pandemic. They had initially planned to visit Atlanta to promote the Covid-19 Relief Package. President Biden ordered flags at the White House and on federal grounds in the U.S. and abroad to be flown at half staff after the deaths in Georgia. Flags will be lowered until sunset on March 22 ‘as a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence.’ In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday, Biden said he and First Lady Jill are ‘keeping everyone impacted by the shootings in Atlanta in their prayers.’
