Suspect Arrested After Gunfire Exchange With Horry Co. Police

One person has been arrested following a shooting incident in Horry County. The situation unfolded around 5pm Thursday in the 800 block of Hayes Point Circle in the Socastee area.

The Horry County Police Department was attempting to conduct a mental health welfare check that escalated into a barricade situation. Police exchanged gunfire while on the scene before the suspect eventually surrendered peacefully. No injuries were reported and the suspect was detained.

Another subject was reportedly removed from the home. There were no threats to the public but nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution. The scene is now secure. Further details were not released but the SLED is assisting in the investigation.
