FBI Director Questioned in Senate Hearing Over Capitol Riot

FBI Director Chris Wray is testifying before a Senate Committee today over the security failings that resulted in the January 6th insurrection. This is his first public testimony since the deadly riot, as well as his first public appearance since the White House confirmed he would remain in his role as FBI Director under President Biden. He will be grilled by lawmakers in the Senate Judiciary Committee, specifically over how they could have missed such obvious and key signs that led them to underestimate the event of a domestic terrorist plot being carried out. Senators will also demand to know why nobody else was properly informed of a potential riot if they believed there was a legitimate threat. The FBI’s preparations leading up to the riot have come under scrutiny, especially after revelations made by top Capitol security officials last week in a Senate hearing. They claimed the FBI sent an email regarding a possible threat which was misconstrued as a simple warning and went unread by many.
